A skier navigates a run at Chestnut Mountain

Chestnut Mountain Resort in Illinois is about a pretty a spot you’ll ski in the Midwest, and it’s kicking off its season opener on Nov. 23 with a deal that’s just as enticing.

From opening day through Dec. 14, all lift tickets will be just $15. That’s 68 percent off the normal price of $47, and about what it used to cost for a lift ticket, rental equipment and a lesson perhaps 40 years ago.

Its 475 feet of vertical overlooks the Mississippi just eight miles south of Galena, and about 2.5 hours from Chicago’s western ‘burbs, affording spectacular sunsets from its 120-room mountaintop resort hotel.

Besides that great rate, skiers and boarders going online to preview a trip here can take advantage of three new high-def webcams mounted at the top of the slopes, the bottom and in its terrain park.

After skiing, there’s dinner at the hotel restaurant, and two casinos are only minutes away.
