Killington Opens for the 2012/2013 Ski Season on November 5

Following a swell of warm air brought inland by Superstorm Sandy last week, the temperatures are finally dropping across the Northeast to more seasonable norms. With the Thanksgiving holiday just a few weeks away, resorts across the region are rallying to get their snowmaking operations underway as the conditions permit. And over the weekend one of Vermont's premiere resorts has pulled ahead of the crowd. Killington Resort has announced they will offiicially open for the 2012/2013 ski season on Monday, November 5 at 9 a.m.

In actuality, Monday marks a re-opening for the resort, who spun up lifts briefly back in mid-October during a special season pass appreciation event. That weekend showcased the awesome power of Killington's snowmaking system and the dedication of their team. This past weekend, the resort was once again blessed with seasonal lows and their snowmaking crew was hard at work after setting up over 100 snow guns on the Upper Great Northern and Rime trails. Monday's anticipated opening will claim Killington the title of first resort to open on the east coast this season.

Skiing and riding will be on un-groomed, advanced terrain only under the guns on Upper Great Northern and Rime trails so we can maximize our snowmaking efforts. Skiers and riders will be making turns on roughly 600 vertical feet of terrain. No beginner terrain or terrain park features will be available at this time.

The K-1 Express Gondola and North Ridge Triple will spin from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday. The K-1 Express Gondola will provide uploading and downloading, skiers and riders will use Great Northern to access terrain in the North Ridge area and will return to the K-1 Express Gondola via a short walk on the Peak Walkway.

The K-1 Lodge will be open for ticket sales, lunch, Guest Service, retail and restrooms. Lift tickets will be $39 for adults (19-64), $33 for seniors (65+) and $30 for youth (7-18).
