There's an old saying about quality over quantity, but Snowshoe Mountain Resort says why not have both? So during the peak of winter this season, the West Virginia resort is challenging its guests to find more skiable terrain at one of the Southeast's 14 other resorts (spread throughout West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina. If they're successful, then Snowshoe will pony up a free lift ticket for their next day of skiing.

From Dec. 15, 2012 through March 15, 2013, Snowshoe is confident they can maintain the most open terrain in the region. Fueling that confidence, is an unrelenting commitment to snowmaking and grooming, which in turn is backed by one of the most advanced and expansive snowmaking systems in the country. Over the summer, the resort added and upgraded a combined 5,000 feet of snowmaking pipe in order to deliver 100 percent snowmaking across the mountain.

As for the quality… well, you don't earn a number one Overall Ski Resort ranking by OnTheSnow.com visitors for nothing. Snowshoe has repeatedly been listed among the top resorts in the region by skiers and riders. And with that much man-made capability, it won't much matter what Mother Nature chooses to do this season. One way or another, Snowshoe will have their snow.

So one big question remains: Who will rule over the competition for coverage on a daily basis? Who better than the #1 ranked ski report site (shameless self-promotion coming) OnTheSnow.com (there it is)? According to Snowshoe's website, "The determination of competitors’ skiable acreage open is based on daily snow reports published on onthesnow.com and recorded each day at 9am ET." They're words, not ours. And if they come up short, head to the ticket window with that day's lift ticket to receive a lift ticket voucher valid at Snowshoe through the end of the 2012/2013 season.
