Skis, snowboards, boots, clothing, and accessories. It’s all up for grabs at the 48th Mt. Spokane Ski Patrol Ski Swap. The event is held the last weekend in October and helps support the all-volunteer ski patrol that watches over skiers and snowboarders at Washington’s Mt. Spokane Ski and Snowboard Park.
Gear is crammed into the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center on Oct. 26-28, 2012 for the swap. Need bigger boots for your kids? Need a new snowboard for yourself? You’ll find it. About 22,000 items get picked up at the swap for prices far below regular retail rates.
More than 20 ski, snowboard and outdoor shops from the Inland Northwest bring in equipment, some new and some used, but all are in good condition. Their gear makes up about 70 percent of the merchandise for sale. The remaining equipment is contributed by individuals who want to sell off what has accumulated in the garage.
The majority of gear is for sale on Saturday with leftover sale items reduced in price by 25 percent on Sunday. Ski equipment for kids disappears the fastest so families trying to outfit youngsters should plan to attend on Saturday when more choices are available.
For those with gear to sell, used equipment can be submitted to the swap from 3-8 p.m. on Friday night. If your gear sells, you can pick up checks from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday. Unsold equipment can also be picked up then.
The swap opens at 9 a.m. and goes until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27 and 9 a.m. until noon on Sunday, Oct. 28. Admission costs $5, but kids 12 and younger can get in free.
The Mt. Spokane Ski and Snowboard Park staff will also be in attendance to sell season passes. The passes are on sale at $50-$100 off through Halloween with rates going up Nov. 1, 2012.
