Idaho Resorts Offer Rewards for Being a Kid

Families trying to get their kids on the slopes can get some help from Ski Idaho. Fifth and sixth graders can ski or snowboard free at select resorts across the state. All they need is a Ski Idaho Passport.

Kids can apply for the passports all season long, including kids from out of state who will be visiting Idaho on vacation. Those who apply now will receive theirs in December for use throughout the winter 2012-13 season; those applying later in the season will get theirs within a week or two, depending on the application used.

Here’s how the program works. After the kids (or their parents) fill out an application, which is available online, they receive the ski free passport. With the passports, fifth graders can ski free three times at each participating resort and sixth graders can ski free twice at each resort in the program. The passport also comes with discounts on rentals and lessons. Some resorts offer specials for siblings and parents, too.

The passports cost $20 for processing. Kids from Idaho can get a coupon for $5 off the processing fee.

To use the passport, kids just show it at the ticket window at the participating ski area. Among the resorts that accept the passports are Brundage, Grand Targhee, Kelly Canyon, Lookout Pass, Magic Mountain, Pebble Creek, Pomerelle, Schweitzer, Silver Mountain, Soldier Mountain, Sun Valley (Dollar Mountain) and Tamarack.

Fifth grade passports can be used at additional resorts, some outside Idaho. They are also valid at Bogus Basin, 49 Degrees North, Bluewood, Lost Trail, and Mt. Spokane. Kids skiing at Sun Valley can upgrade to a Bald Mountain ticket for $20.
