The stunning Jungfrau region that includes the resorts of Interlaken, Wengen, Murren and Grindelwald, has announced a new discounted accommodation and ski ticket package which runs through the season right through to April 16.
The package includes a seven-night stay in a range of accommodation from a hostel to a five star deluxe hotel, on either bed and breakfast or half board with six-day full Jungfrau Region ski poass valid at all the ski resorts and on connecting trains and buses.
The package is available on a sliding scale from 585 Swiss Francs per person for a week on bed and breakfast in a hostel to 2,595 Swiss Francs for a single room in a five-star deluxe hotel on half board.
There are participation accommodation in all or most categories in each village. In Grindelwald, for example, they range from a choice of two hostels up to the deluxe Grand Regina hotel.
The Jungfrau region has two great claims to fame - it was one of the earliest destinations for winter sports holidays and it remains one of the most spectacularly beautiful places on earth. The skiing is pretty good too.
There are other assets - Europe's highest railway station at the Jungfraujoch opens up to a small year-round snow field where snow games are currently available in the summer months. It is not possible to ski down to the main slopes from this high point however.
The Jungfrau begins at the beautiful lakeside town of Interlaken, which is particularly notable in the winter for its excellent hotels at bargain prices.
There are several small local ski hills such as Wilderswil and Habkern, but the main skiing is to be had at Mürren, which has its own ski area separate to the others, on the largest segment of terrain shared by Wengen and Grindelwald, or on Grindelwald's own First ski area. The latter resort is the only one you can actually drive up to.
