Some may characterize Monarch Mountain as a "small" resort, but its 2011/2012 season pass is anything but—as the number of other areas who honor the Monarch pass continues to grow.
In 2011/2012, the adult season pass price of $399 includes free skiing at 21 other resorts in seven states and one province. Students ages 13-15 and seniors 62-69 pay $209, while pre-teens pay $109—all with the partner resort perks. The prices are good through November 6, whereupon the price will go up, according to the mountain's website.
Telluride Ski Resort, Ski Cooper and Ski Apache joined the list of season-pass partners for this season. Revelstoke Mountain Resort, in British Columbia, returns with an offer of three days of free skiing or riding, and half-price lodging at the Nelsen Lodge.
Colorado resorts also include Loveland, Durango, Powderhorn, Sunlight, SolVista and Silverton. In New Mexico, the Monarch pass is also honored at Taos, Angel Fire, Red River, Pajarito and Sipapu. Wyoming's Grand Targhee, California's China Peak and Michigan's Inidanhead all reciprocate, while Alta in Utah offers half-price skiing.
Monarch, which boasts some of the most-consistent powder snow in the southern Rockies, lays out with 670 acres in bounds and another 900 acres under the ropes. Perched on the Continental Divide, the area typically attracts 350 inches of snowfall to blanket all of its 1,162 feet of vertical drop, which is served by five chairlifts and several conveyors.
