Learn To Freeride In Safety On The Stubai Glacier

New this winter, the Freeride Center Stubai is offering Guiding & Riding lessons to introduce winter sports enthusiasts to freeriding on the Stubai Glacier.

At the Pieps A.R.T Station on the Stubai glacier, skiers and snowboarders will learn how to deal with the worst case scenario. The lessons provide education for the right behaviour in the back country: learn how to ski in deep snow, how to orientate yourself, and what to do in dangerous situations like avalanches, crevasses, and accidents. They also will teach how to carry emergency equipment, which is essential for freeriders, and how to use it.

The Stubai Glacier, Austria's largest glacier, is set between 2300-3200 metres. Of its 110 kilometres of runs, around 20 kilometres are usually open in May and June and served by modern cableways. Beginners and intermediate skiers are well catered for with plenty of blue and red runs. Two black runs, Wildpitzschuss and Schartenschuss, are open in summer too. The extensive Snowpark Stubai Zoo closes in May.

Skiing is available on the glacier until June 13. The glacier is a  20-minute drive from the Tirolean capital of Innsbruck. Lodging can be found in the nearby villages of Neustift, Neder, Fulpmes, and Mieders.
