Blue Mountain Is Offering Spring Ski Packages

March is often some of the best skiing and riding of the year.  Longer daylight hours combine with warmer spring temperatures, and it's a combination that's hard to beat. Break out the shorts, T-shirts and halter tops.

Blue Mountain, Ontario's largest snow sports resort, is offering lift and lodging packages, good March 20-31, that start from $114 CA ($116.64 US) per person, per night, based on double occupancy. Packages must be booked by March 13, and can be made by calling the number listed below.

Visited by over 1.5 million guests a year, Blue Mountain Resort is big time skiing and riding for southern Ontario. Nestled on the shores of Lake Huron's Georgian Bay the resort spans over 700 acres strung out along a two-and-a-half mile escarpment with a 720-foot vertical drop. Popular with Toronto snow sports enthusiasts, it also attracts skiers and riders from Buffalo, Cleveland, Detroit and southern Michigan.

The resort has an Intrawest village, 36 trails ranging from beginner to double black diamond, two terrain parks, a super pipe, and 14 lifts, including four high-speed express chairs.

They have been towing skiers up that escarpment since 1941, almost as long as any other ski area in the Heartland. It has grown considerably since Czechoslovakian immigrant Jozo Weilder cut a couple of trails and rigged a lift made of cables, a pair of sleds, and a truck engine.
