Terry Peak, the Heartland's tallest ski area with over a 1,100-foot vertical drop, is hosting its celebrated Fat Tire Music Series over the next few weekends.
The music series, held at the Dark Horse Saloon in Nevada Gulch, has become an après ski tradition at the Peak. Stop by the Dark Horse after skiing and riding for a foot stomping good time, and enjoy a Fat Tire brew with the live entertainment. There are always many door prizes to be given away and a chance to win a pair of skis from Peak Sports. It's arguably one of the best live music scenes at a Midwest ski area.
Grammy nominee Randy McAllister, who has been compared to John Hiatt and Delbert McClinton, will be playing his brand of Texas blues at the Dark Horse Saloon Saturday, Feb. 19. Vince Converse, another Texan, brings his hard rocking blues, reminiscent of Kenny Wayne Sheppard, to the Dark Horse the following Saturday, Feb. 26. Ben Suchy will be performing his roots-rock music that embraces folk, Americana, blues, and a little rock March 5.
Terry Peak, located in the Black Hills of western South Dakota, sits just a few miles above Deadwood and about an hour from Rapid City. On the western fringe of the Midwest, the resort is kind of twixt ‘n tween. It's geographically linked to the Midwest, but topographically has more in common with Western ski areas.
They are having an excellent winter having received over 12 feet of snow so far this winter by earlier this month. The resort has over 30 runs - some up to two miles long - four chairlifts (includes two high-speed quads), a halfpipe and freestyle terrain park.
