Senior winter athletes will congregate at Bear Valley Mountain for the 2011 California Senior Winter Games. The games, operated under the auspices of the California Senior Games Association, provide ski, snowboard, telemark, and cross country competitions March 11-13.
Bear Valley has opened registration for the event. Any senior, 50 years and older, is eligible to compete.
Competitions for the California Senior Winter Games cover several disciplines with levels for advanced, intermediate, and beginners. Competitions are scheduled in downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing with social events to include music, wine tasting, kids' activities, and awards ceremonies.
Race entries cost $20-45 per event. But two all-inclusive packages are available, too. One package includes three days of fees for all events, three training clinics, the Friday dinner party, Saturday banquet, and Sunday Brew and Wine Fest. The package costs $130. The platinum all-inclusive package adds on lodging and lift tickets. It costs $360. Lodging is for two nights at the Bear Valley Lodge.
Bear Valley is hosting one more pre-games clinic March 6. A giant slalom training clinic is offered 10 a.m. to noon and a slalom clinic from 1-3 p.m. Individual two-hour sessions cost $15, but you can register for both for $25.
