Few resorts give up slopeside properties for hostels. Big White Ski Resort is one ski area that does. The Urban Retreat Hostel, which sits on prime ski in-ski out real estate, offers an inexpensive way to stay and ski/ride at the BC ski resort.
The Urban Retreat Hostel, located in Big White's village, offers ski in-ski out lodging for those on a budget. The back door accesses the slopes, and its location makes a convenient place return for lunch. A two-minute walk leads to village restaurants, shops, and bars.
Newly renovated facilities at the hostel include sleeping accommodations, a big communal kitchen, and common areas such as a TV room. A hot tub provides a place to warm up after skiing. The hostel also offers free wireless Internet, a laundry, and a wax station for preparing skis and snowboards for the slopes.
Accommodations are in dorms and private rooms. The hostel offers more than 100 dorm beds in rooms having four to eight beds. A few private rooms are available, too; some include kitchenettes.
Dorm beds cost CAN$30 per night through March 31. The rate drops to $25 per night after that, until April 12. Private rooms cos CAN$90 per night. Weekly rates are available, too.
The hostel schedules social activities. Weekly events feature movie nights, poker nights, and the occasional theme night party.
