Ski Apache: It's All About Family

Joining a group for a lesson in skiing or snowboarding always feels more comfortable when you know some of the people in the group.

Ski Apache has designed a program that includes the people you know the best: your family.

The Ski Apache Family Plan restricts group lessons to family members. Only parents, their children, and the family grandparents can join in the instruction. The southern New Mexico resort set up the special groupings in hopes of improving the chances of everyone getting better on the slopes, and having more fun doing it.

Full family lessons can take up to six members, and the children must be at least four years old. The lesson runs for 90 minutes and costs from $175 to $275, depending upon the size of the group, and includes the cost of a lift ticket. Lessons begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue to start on every half hour until 2:30 p.m.

Ski Apache also has exclusive lessons for just mother and child, or father and child. They also run $175 and include the price of lift tickets. These two-person lessons run only on Sundays. Some exclusions for holiday and peak periods apply.

Ski Apache opened in 1961 as Sierra Blanca Ski Resort and has been operated by the Mescalero Apache Tribe since 1963. The mountain rises up 16 miles outside of Ruidoso, N.M.
