A 4.5-magnitude earthquake rattled southern Utah early Monday (Jan. 3) morning, including Eagle Point Resort, but officials reported no damage.

Media outlets reported that the epicenter was located in Circleville in the Tushar Mountains, about 20 miles from Eagle Point, and the quake's movements were felt in several small towns and the town of Beaver.

Eagle Point spokesperson Jodi Holmgren said that inspections of lifts and other infrastructure revealed no damage.

Utah's newest winter resort certainly has had its share of excitement during its first month of operations. Eight feet of snow fell in December, and high winds and canyon flooding caused a two-day power outage at the mountain, and roads into the resort were periodically closed.

"Eagle Point personnel have demonstrated their ability to handle just about anything," Holmgren said in a press release, noting that the mountain is now open.
