High-altitude ski resorts in Austria, France, Switzerland, and Italy are kicking off the winter season over the next couple of weeks.
Obergurgl-Hochgurgl opened 10 lifts for the weekend last Friday (Nov. 14) due to the excellent snow conditions. It is now closed again until this Thursday (Nov. 18) when it officially kicks off its season.
The ski resorts of Sölden, Val Thorens, and Crans Montana are due to open this weekend: Sölden is set to open Friday, Nov. 19; Val Thorens Saturday, Nov. 20; and Crans Montana Sunday, Nov. 21.
Verbier also opened last Friday for the weekend only (Nov. 12-14). The ski resort had been due to open the previous weekend, but had to delay due to lack of snow. It is now closed again, but will officially open from Saturday, Nov. 20.
The Espace Killy ski area (Tignes and Val d'Isere) has announced it will open Saturday, Nov. 27. Also kicking off the season next week (Nov. 27) are the resorts of Alta Badia, Ischgl, Samnaun, and Zell am See-Kaprun.
Other partially open ski resorts include Tignes, Zermatt, Gstaad, Cervinia, Hintertux, Neustift, Saas-Fee, Val Senales, Passo Tonale, and Kitzbuehel.
