The Midwest ski season is just around the corner, less than two weeks away if weather cooperates.
Granite Peak, Wisconsin's largest ski hill with a large 700-foot vertical drop plans, weather permitting, to open for the season Saturday, Nov. 20. They will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. opening day and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The Peak will close during the week and plans to reopen Thanksgiving Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and through the weekend with night skiing Friday and Saturday nights.
A family of four - two adults, two children 12 and under - can stay and ski three days starting from $338 per family, or $286 per couple over Thanksgiving. Many Wausau area hotels and motels package with the ski area. Call the number listed below for details. Thanksgiving dinner at the ski area is $10.95 per adult, and kids with parents eat free. The best news is that you can go out and ski or ride to work off the calories after Turkey Day dinner. What could be better?
A Thanksjibbing Rail Jam takes place Saturday. The throw down starts at 11:30 a.m. There will be live entertainment in the tavern from 2 to 10 p.m.
Granite Peak will be closed on Mondays from Nov. 30 - Dec. 13 when they open daily for the rest of the season. The ski area will open at 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday for the first couple of weeks in December. Normal hours kick in Monday, Dec. 14 through the rest of the season.
Early season lift tickets for adults through Dec. 12 are $47 per day or $68 for a two-day ticket, and $37 and $52 respectively for children (6-12) and seniors (65+).
