Altstadt square, in front of the infamous Golden Roof, is transformed into a traditional Austrian Christmas market. Stalls are decorated and set around a tall Christmas tree in the old town from Monday, Nov. 15 to Thursday, Dec. 23. Visitors can browse traditional Christmas gifts, like wooden handicrafts and typical Tyrolean food, while enjoying traditional folk music.
A second Christmas market is held at the Marktplatz and is particularly popular with children. The traditional Rattenberger Perchten (wild spirits) will visit the Christmas market Dec. 4 at 6:30 p.m., and Dec. 6 St Nikolaus will arrive at the Marktplatz by helicopter and bring all the children a surprise.
A third Christmas market is set up along Maria-Theresien-Strasse, Innsbruck's main shopping street. The street will be decorated with modern Christmas lighting desgins and a range of Tryolean souvenirs.
