German ski resorts are dominating the European snowfall chart this week. Forecasters predict back-to-back snowstorms across the region, bringing powder conditions by the weekend.
Germany is set to receive more snow this week than the ski giants of France, Austria, Switzerland or Italy, with 30-42cm of snow forecast in 50 German ski resorts within one week (Jan. 24-30): Hinterzarten Breitnau 42cm; Alpsee Bergwelt 41cm; Altglashuetten 41cm; Bernau Koepfle Spitzenberg 41cm; Mittag Skicenter 41cm; Oberstaufen 41cm; Ofterschwanger Horn 41cm; Todtnauberg 41cm; am Belchen 41cm; Skigebiet Boedefeld Hunau 41cm; and Hohenbogen 40cm.
Other German resorts are forecast 30-36cm by Saturday night. This week sees the country's most widespread snow falls yet this season and eager skiers and snowboarders are expected to flock to the resorts at the weekend.
Germany is known for its modern resorts at friendly costs. The region offers everything from World Cup races to glacier skiing and peaceful mountain hideaways. The main ski resorts in Germany include Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Berchtesgaden, Mittenwald, Oberstdorf, and Lenggries.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen is the country's best-known ski resort. The area offers skiing between 750-2050 metres. The 75 kilometres of downhill runs are linked by 28 cable railways and ski lifts, which can transport 16,000 skiers an hour.
