Val Tho installs free WiFi in ski lifts

The highest ski resort in Europe, Val Thorens, has installed free WiFi in all of its ski lifts. 

This new service is accessible to all from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. So far the WiFi has proved very popular, with a steadily increasing connection rate, which is up 30 percent on last year.

Eric Bonnel, Sales and Marketing Director of ski lift company SETAM, said: "We want to offer visitors the best services to facilitate their stay in the resort. We are anticipating their needs by offering them access to Wi-Fi on the ski lifts."

Skiers can also download the Val Tho iPhone app to find resort news, webcams, weather forecasts, avalanche risks, and more.

Due to its popularity, the wireless LAN will soon be extended to the Orelle resort to allow tourists to connect from a restaurant terrace.  

Val Thorens is packing the last month of the winter season full of activities and events - Easter Week (April 7-14) with giant Easter egg hunt and procession; Les 3 Vallees Enduro race (April 9) for pros, amateurs and families; the Kontum Snowboard event (April 21-22); and the season ends with live music, partying and dancing at Dutch Week (April 28 to May 5).
