Snowbird Leaps And Rocks Into April

Management at Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort was planning on staying open for the whole month of April anyway, so they decided to kick in some springtime events for good measure.

First of all, they’ve dropped the price to $329 to ski or snowboard for the remainder of the season; an all-day ticket costs $78 – you do the math. Then, on April 9, the price of an adult all-day tram and chairlift ticket drops to $66, and chairs-only season passes become valid for the tramway.

Every weekend from now until they shut down the lifts – management won’t say when that is – there’s music on the Plaza Deck all month, featuring 13 Utah-area bands and DJs for listeners and dancers alike.

On April 5-7, the Junior Freeskiing Tour completes its season at Snowbird. The four-stop big mountain series pits young skiers against each other and the terrain. Many who have participated in the junior circuit have gone on to compete in the Subaru Freeskiing World tour. The tour is open to men and women, ages 12 through high school graduation, divided into two age groups. Judging rewards freestyle aspects of the competitors who take on the chutes, cliffs and steeps at Snowbird.

April 8 will feature the traditional Easter Sunrise Service on Hidden Peak, with the first tram up at 5:29 a.m. and last at 6:43 a.m. Mountaintop service begins at 6:59 a.m. At 9 a.m, kids get going on the Easter Egg Hunt, following by brunch at The Aerie from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for $36.95 adults, $18.95 children. On the weekend of April 15-17, the snowboarders take over the spotlight for the final stop of the North Face Masters of Snowboarding.  Featuring a $15,000 purse, the big-mountain competition pits experienced and developing riders against Snowbird’s gnarly terrain. The event is open to all who are over 18 of age.
