Alberta’s Marmot Basin has received so much snow that some of its trail signs are buried in the snow. What that means for skiers and snowboarders is a long spring season, and Jasper can provide the place to stay with off-season lodging rates.
Marmot is benefiting from a year of good snow. It has already received 25 percent more snow than in an average year. The snow at Marmot is also on track to break the previous snowfall record set 13 years ago.
The ski resort, located in Jasper National Park, usually remains open into early May. The strong snowfall for the 2011-12 season will provide good skiing and riding through its closing day slated for May 6.

For spring skiers and snowboarders, plenty of lodging options are available in the town of Jasper. The ski season benefits from reduced lodging rates because high season comes to Jasper in summer.
The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge offers ski and stay packages that are available until Marmot closes for the season. The ski free package, which requires a minimum of two nights lodging, costs $249 per night based on double occupancy. A two-night stay includes lift tickets for one day of skiing. In summer, the room costs $450 per night. For reservations, call 800-441-1414.
Other lodging options are available in Jasper. Hotels, inns, and a few condos line the main highway through town. You can find ski and stay packages that span all prices, including budget lodging in the Jasper Hostel. Find more lodging options here.
