This is actually pretty pathetic. It's a huge waste of water and energy to cover one run top to bottom for bragging rights no one else in the business really cares about. If the state of Colorado had any sense (which of course it doesn't) they'd put an end to this. Snow making should only be used to augment or patch natural snow as necessary.
Get a life, these ski area's do this for one reason, there is money in it, they are meeting the market demands. The fact of the matter is that there are a lot of ski areas that would be undependalble or would not open at all if there was no snowmaking. The water used melts in the spring and runs back into the enviroment so it is jeust being borrowed not wasted. As far as the energy used if you are willing to pay the bills you should be able to do what you want. I wish I had the time to go.
Wish i lived in Colorado its still 60 out here in ohio and we're having our open house at Boston Mills but they bring in snow for a rail jam so it should be fun just cant wait for Old Man Winter!!!!!!! LET IT SNOW!!!!!!!
cannot wait to get out there!
