You have to realise that skiing is not commercialised at all in Cyprus. Its is run by small ski clubs. I went skiing at Mt Olympos in March and I was impressed given how South it is and how close Mt Olympos is to the sea.I am told you have to ski from February to March as they do not have snow making. You can actually see the sea and I think you could see other countries when I went off piste. The infrastructure is spartan and reminds me of the club fields I skiied at in New Zealand for the warmth and general hospitality. Accomodation is very cheap at this time of year. You can get a place with a Jacuzzi for 70 Euros at the nearby villages. Off piste skiing is actaully pretty good but I skiied with a group of British Expats who knew some sweet secret runs after alot of hiking around. You will not find the glamour of Ski resorts in France or Switzerland but you will find a unique Cypriot paradoxical experience. I skiied Monday and Tuesday then went jet skiing in the Mediterranean on Wednesday. It still blows my mind. Food wise you may as well pack your own light lunch then enjoy a huge afternoon feast of cheap but good Greek apetisers like Red Wine Corriander pork, octopus, Loukanika (Cypriot Chorizo), legume dishes and wash it down with Zivania (Cypriot rocket fuel) and orange juice. They do not have Heli ski operators as Skiing is not commercialised at all in Cyprus. I think a commercial operator could convert Mt Olympos from a Club run ski field into a resort which could service a range of skiiers like Ex Pats from the Southern Hemisphere, local skiiers and skiiers from countries such as Isreal which is very close by.There are nice churches, museums and ancient sites as well.
