Keystone opens with top to bottom skiing on Thursday, November 5. Copper Mountain opens the following day on Friday. A-Basin plans to open more terrain soon, as does Loveland. Breckenridge opens Peak 8 terrain on Thursday, November 12. Today Breckenridge Ski Patrol conducted avalanche control on Peaks 7 and 8. A couple dozen explosions reverberated through the valleys this morning and a few minor slides were visible but they didn't release to dirt which is great. The upper bowls have retained most of the snow that has fallen since September 21 when the first measurable snow of Autumn fell. Windloading has already created avalanche conditions at Breckenridge and other areas in Colorado with backcountry travelers already getting caught in slides. Temperatures have stayed cold enough in Breckenridge to retain all of the snow from last week's storm. I hiked up to the bottom of E-Chair yesterday (11/2) and the snow is still fresh and deep. Someone, likely Patrol, has already skied Mine Shaft and Devil's Crotch on the North-facing side of Peak 9 off of E-Chair. Breck's early season upper mountain base is very good. Let's hope this continues. Snow is in the forecast from this Sunday through next Thursday.
