I'm a midwesterner who enjoyed skiing Heavenly last year for the first time. This December I will be in the San francisco Bay area for approximatell three weeks. I was just wondering if driving to the Lake Tahoe area for a day or two of skiing is advisable or are the roads to hazardous that time of year?

First of all you should consider buying a Winter Tahoe Card through Snowbomb for all of the potential discounts. Also, there are many websites that provode info on deals and discounted tickets, otherwise Tahoe can be real expensive. Give yourself plenty of time to get there if traveling on the weekend. I laugh when I hear people talk about 3-4 hours to get there from the bay area. It can be 3-4 hours to Truckee or SLT from Sacramento alone when there is commuter traffic or after a recent storm. Truckee area and Tahoe City are closer to more ski areas and there's more to see and do than SLT, but then Kirkwood and Siierra-at-Tahoe are two ski areas just outside of SLT that are worth checking out. Also, Bear Valley and Dodge Ridge are two ski areas further south of Tahoe in the Central Sierra range that might even be easier and faster to get to than Tahoe. If you were up for a little further drive you could get to Mammoth via Tahoe for the overall best conditions in California. Pack chains, watch out for the CHP!

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond to my blog post. Truckee and Squaw Valley is the area where I was thinking of driving to.
