It's the end of August, the swimming pool is closed, school starts tommorow, I have recieved the first issue of Ski Magazine for the year, and I can't wait to ski!! The summer here in the panhandle of Nebraska has been unusually cool and wet. The grass is still green at the end of August, greener than it normally is in June. We did not get much swimming pool time in this year because the weather was so lousy. I have been to the YMCA a lot and I bought a new mountain bike, I am in good shape and ready to ski. Sadly I have at least three months to wait if not more. I am hoping that this cool and wet condition continues through winter. I just might try to ski down some of our local hills to see how it works. See you on the slopes.

Well I came 26 years ago and stayed. I just drove 3 1/2 hrs yesterday to mt. ruapehu to ski @ Turoa skifield Also has 2 other fields on the same semi-active volcano beautiful sunny day 7 foot base but the expected foot of fresh was missing very windblown as the fields are so exposed no trees Temoerature 3-5 degrees below freezing about 4-5in of windblown on very custy to icy base and best of all the winds were down to 10-20mph However a whiteout from a passing snow shower one hour before closing meant one unfortunate skier on my last run was toboganned (knee) down. The new boots worked a treat and were much more comfortable than the fisrt time up 3 weeks ago. Google New Zealand for fields in the north and south islands. The only down side was the 3 1/2 hour trip back to Wellington. The Mountain hosts were good value!!
