This coming holiday season I am going to be skiing in Minnesota since I can't afford the trip out west and I was wondering where I should go. I was thinking of going out to Lutsen but the only problem with that is that it is far away from everything which might not be bad. One other thing i was thinking of doing was hanging around the twin cities because I have family there that I can stay with. If anyone has any experience with minnesota skiing leave me a comment. Thanks

Lutsen is the best lift-served skiing in the Midwest (except for Bohemia).

I always get a season pass to Spirit Mountain and Lutsen each year, and even though I can hit Spirit with a rock from where I live, I still go to Lutsen more. Yeah, it's only a 1.5 hour drive for me, but even if you have to go, say three hours for it, it's still well worth it. Especially if you can get your buddies together and make a weekend out of it.

If price is a factor, depending on where you live, you can get discounted tickets for "locals." Just go to http://www.lutsen.com/local . Otherwise, go up there for a weekend and buy two-day tickets, which save you about $10-$12. Lastly, if you can't afford to stay on the mountain, check out The Mountain Inn, which is literally a hundred feet from the cat tracks. It's a lot cheaper, and a decent place. There's also the Cliff View which is about a 5 minute drive to the chairs, but is even cheaper yet.

The short answer: Lutsen is better than every where else in Minnesota. They have better & bigger terrain, far better snow, and it's a great place to road-trip to. I would highly recommend Lutsen over anything else.
