I noticed a lot more people with video cameras on the slopes this past winter (2008-09). One youtube seach for "skiing heavenly" brought up nearly 2,000 results!
I myself am one of these new, amateur-snowboarding video producers, and I entered the scene last season with a Flip Video Mino.
This small camera (the size of an average cell-phone) has made it sooo incredibly simple to do one-touch video recording at camcorder quality. But it's a little hard to record while boarding ...
It comes in HD recording quality, too.
I thought it was the coolest thing ever until a a co-worker showed me this:
http://gizmodo.com/5229557/contourhd-films-your-extreme-escapades-in-hd A four-ounce, HD camera that snaps onto your goggles! The ContourHD looks pretty rad. Hopefully that $300 pricetag will drop a little this summer ...
I was talking with a snowboard instructor at Heavenly who said he films his students' lessons and then provides them with a CD and a link to the video online so they can see how they look on the slopes and learn from it. This ski instructor does GREAT business and has been providing film of his students for years. I thought this was not only a great thing to take home after receiving a snowboard lesson, but a priceless teaching instrument.
Anyway, does anyone on this site do ski videos? If so do you have samples (on youtube or otherwise)?
What camera do you use?
I'd like to start filming more, and am looking for tips.
