This spring (in Northern California) has been cold and gloomy, except for one week of serious heat and another week of rainfall ... Usually by June the sun is shining and the weather is sweet, and most everyone is switching gears into summer.
The recent cold and overcast weather, however, has me in an early-November mindset, where snow is enivitablely near and my board just got it's first hot-wax of the season. Summer, bikinis, and b-b-qs seems like an eternity away.
So, in light of my off-seasonal state of mind, I thought I'd blog about the snow-related happenings in Australia and New Zealand ...
-Falls Creek, Baw Baw, Buller, Hotham, Perisher, Selwyn Snowfields, and Thredbo are open in Australia.
-FREE SKIING: Mt Buller is celebrating snow depths of more than half a metre of powdery fresh snow with 56cms of very good cover across the resort and snowmaking continuing in the sub-zero temperatures. Laurie Blampied, General Manager for Buller Ski Lifts confirmed there will be free skiing on Friday for anyone who purchases a one or two day lift pass for the weekend. (source:

-Coronet Peak, Turoa, and Mt. Hutt are open in New Zealand.
-Christchurch & Canterbury Tourism is offering visitors to the New Zealand region the deal of a lifetime - a night's accommodation in a Christchurch hotel, or a selection of activities for just NZD $1.
The $1 deal is only available online at the new official Christchurch & Canterbury website, www.christchurchnz.com for a stay on the night of Saturday, June 20 to mark the winter solstice, and must be booked between today and Friday, June 19. Activities can be enjoyed on either Saturday or Sunday, June 20-21.
Argentinian and Chilean ski resorts are planning to open starting next week, but New Zealand and Australia are already booming.
Wish I could shake this "winter dulldrums" feeling and escape to AU or NZ for a weekend ...
