Plus, after a morning at DV on Saturday for that celebrity ski race, I'm not about to go back until they get a ton more snow or open more terrain. With just Bird's Eye and Success open (I heard guests grumbling that they're trying to save terrain for the holiday crunch), dare I say, it sucked. There were people and kids everywhere, slipping and sliding and just plain in the way. You were skiing rockhard manmade snow with little mogul puffs from everyone skidding the top layer off. I was in pure survival mode. Good thing there was that race so I could sit it out and share space with some extremely nice Hollywood types. Bobby Kennedy and Wife Mary walked over to greet me, shook my hand, and they weren't the hosts of the event. That was CBS and the event should air this weekend. I caught Julia Louis Dreyfus in the blue gate. Not a bad skier. Same goes for Scott Wolfe (Party of Five, Everwood) and Matthew Modine. Larry David could use a few more lessons. The roster has gotten better over the years but you still won't see Brad Pitt or Nicole Kidman out there. All attending looked like they were having so much fun and who wouldn't? It was a gorgeous sunny day, yummy food and pleasant company amid an edge of lighthearted rivalry as they competed in the ProAm race where corporate sponsors put together race groups for their clients and employees with the celebs joining. I didn't return Sunday for the celeb race itself. Instead, I took Sage skiing at Snowbird for her very first time.
So now comes Tuesday morning. It's my turn to ski. Oh and the 48 hour total at The Bird is 16 inches. Not only that but it's freezing out side. 6 degrees at Hidden Peak. Brrrr. Good news for powder fans as despite a sunny day, it won't all settle into something like the equivalent of swimming in seaweed infested water. Better get dressed and out. There's a delayed opening for Little Cloud which means I could get some freshies. I had planned to go to Alta but changed my mind for two reasons. When it's super cold out the Tram keeps you warmer and gives you a moment to defrost and my blowdryer broke over the weekend. I can't possibly take my new Alta pass photo with my hair looking like this!
Toodles.
