So, having been born in the month of March it is pretty darned certain there was a good snowpack in the Oregon Cascades the day I came down the chute.

In my five decades after, skiing these parts every winter since 1958 I have been pretty tuned into the weather and climate patterns. Lately we have learned the effect of ocean temperatures, will it be la nina or el nino? Well, there are other correlates.

Extensive statistical analysis including multi-way analysis of variance, trend analysis, and checking the shelves in the beer department at our local Safeway stores have presented some critical information.

The best predictor of the timing and strength of our winter snowpack in the Oregon Cascades comes down to three things.

1) season pass prices posted in the month of October
2) early snowfall recorded in both September and October
3) the appearance of Jubel Ale in our beer departments at local stores

This year all three factors are in a high presence.

Be ready when the slopes are. Get your butt out the door to run hills. Buy your season pass. Drink good beer in moderation.

See you on the slopes soon.

I've been hearing about you folk for years now, and the snow you get. I think it's my turn to partake. Here's hoping I can make it out thata way this year!
