This is my 2nd trip to Winterplace, and I had more fun this time than last! The have so much snow there, they could ski for 2 more months!
Winterplace is a great resort for here in the South East. I'm anxious to get to Snowshoe as well, but for now Winterplace is as far as I can drive.
Winterplace has a great setup, with two convenient parking lots to choose from, level and easy to get to. Tons of different trails to choose from and a couple are quite long for this area. It actually took 10-15 minutes to get from the top to the bottom depending on which route I would take. Now that's some long trails for around here!
They have a TON of snow and are still making more. They have a few trails left to get open, but that's ok because what they had was alot for me. I loved the Mountainhouse.. the sort of mid mountain lodge. It's got a good feel, open & clean, good restrooms, mini shop with lift tix, minor supplies and a good cafeteria. The burgers are really great. A large deck area to sit in the sun and watch the action, and its mostly out of the wind. The lower lodge is not as nice I don't think, up and down some stairs, overcrowding and hardly a table to be found. The locker room is plentiful and if you use them that's handy. We skiied from morning till night taking a break long enough to check into our hotel in Beckly (15 min away). When we returned to ski around 4:30 we were able to get parking right up front and we walked only a short minute to get skiing.
Someone did try to steal my skiis while we were there and fortunately I was standing there and yelled and they left them alone.. claiming to have made a mistake. Yeah right, my powder blue heads are a hot item, and the only ones I've seen like them. Now, I will swap a ski with hubby and leave them at opposite ends of the rack. Lotta good stealing one of each, his are like 20cm longer! LOL.
Anyway.. next time I'm staying in a ski in ski out cabin, or maybe at the condos. I just love the idea of not having to leave, and being able to take breaks in my own room, not a public area! So.. even though it's like $200 a night.. it'll be worth it.
