Cataloochee is tucked away in nowhereville Maggie Valley, NC. If it weren't for the Vertical Wind Tunnel nearby I probably wouldn't even go!
It's a nice little place to have close by because it provides more skiing options. But all in all, I found Cataloochee to be too overcrowded and not at all setup for it. I'm sure in the dead times and it's probably great then, but I can't always just take off of work and go ski.

The only lodge is overcrowded, with very few facilities. There is only 1 place to buy a lift ticket so you have to stand in incredibly long lines. There were lots of ticket windows, but less than half of them open, and on a Holiday weekend, who would've figured?

After lots of waiting in line for tickets, then we got to wait in long lines for the lift. Then we finally got to make a couple of runs amidst tons of out of control beginners.

All in all, I'm in no hurry to return to Cataloochee. But if I happen to have a free weekday nowhere around a holiday, I will try again. The lodge was inferior, the lines were incredible, and the slopes are far and few between. The parking is tiered here as well, and I had to hike to and from my car. I hate walking when I came to ski.
