The Gourmet Ski Tour Santa Croce is a popular panoramic and gastronomic ski excursion in the Dolomites.
The tour starts from Col Alto or Piz Sorega and ends in Santa Croce. Local cuisine may be tasted along the way at the eight traditional mountain refuges with wooden terraces and stone floors.
Each refuge specialises in something different, such as cheeses, goulash with dumplings, gnocchi, venison, charcoal grilled meat, porcini mushrooms or homemade grappa. The tour also offers panoramic views across woods, hamlets, and ancient churches.
The valley of Alta Badia is increasing its gourmet credentials this winter, with a variety of culinary initiatives throughout the season to highlight the winning combination of winter sports and fine cuisine.
The region of South Tyrol boasts a very high concentration of Michelin stars, squeezing an impressive 15 stars at 14 restaurants into an area of 7400 square kilometres. This winter, chefs will be working with the cooks from mountain huts throughout the region to promote regional cuisine.
Until mid-January 2010, diners will be invited to vote for the dishes at each hut and the winning mountain hut cook will be entered free of charge into the annual South Tyrol Chef's Cup in Alta Badia.
