It's probably one of the best Heartland deals for those wanting to earn how to ski or snowboard. How does free sound? It doesn't get much better than that, and it's in plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the winter season; in Duluth that normally lasts through March.
Spirit Mountain is providing free ski and snowboard lessons for beginners - 13 years and up - at 10 a.m. or 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 3. The lesson, which normally costs $45, includes free equipment rental. Reservations need to be made at least 48 hours in advance of lesson day. Call the number listed below to reserve your spot, and don't delay. It's first come, first serve and lessons fill quickly.
They will be repeating the offer the first Sunday in February and March, but the ealier you get going the more winter you will have left to enjoy.
Don't forget that Spirit Mountain and Giant's Ridge announced earlier this season a joint marketing venture that will provide a nice savings to skiers and riders. This winter you can bring a daily lift ticket from one resort to the other and qualify for a "buy one, get one free" lift ticket offer. It amounts to getting half-off your lift ticket price at the second ski area. The offer is good January, February, and March, but not valid on Saturdays.
Giant's Ridge is located about an hour northwest of Duluth on Minnesota's rugged Iron Range. The two ski areas complement each other nicely. Spirit looks out over Lake Superior and the Duluth harbor, and the Ridge looks out over an endless stretch of northern Minnesota forest and inland lakes. It makes a nice package for weekend visit.
