Boston Mills/Brandywine, located between Cleveland and Akron in the Buckeye State snowbelt, offer some of the most comprehensive teaching programs for children I've found among Great Lakes ski areas.

The program credo is, "Welcome to the Boston Mills/Brandywine Kids Academy-where children can laugh and play their way to becoming confident and skilled skiers and riders."  That says it all.  They instruct young snowsports enthusiasts from beginner lessons through advanced levels in racing, freestyle and beyond.  The Kids Academy offers three programs for children ages 3-14:  Tiny Tots (ages 3-4), Mogul Mites (ages 5-8) and SnowSquad (ages 8-14).  Each program includes a six-week lesson plan.

The Tiny Tots program is all about having fun.  The child is introduced to the fundamentals of skiing through games, imagination and adventure.  A low skier-to-coach ratio allows children to progress at a comfortable pace.

Mogul Mites are introduced to new ability challenges through on-slope games and technique-shaping activities Class sizes are kept low for optimum learning experiences.

SnowSquad kids cover the whole ski area.  Whether they're sliding/riding freestyle, cruising the slopes, or hitting the gates, there's no time for boredom.  They learn it all.

There's even a new Olympians Program for aspiring young racers.  This ski dynamics progression program is designed to help kids age 8-12 refine their skills through race training, including some of the tactical drills used by the U.S. Ski Team.

Skiing and riding are lifelong sports, which, like many sports, are easiest to learn at an early age.  So check out the Boston Mills/Brandywine ski school program, if you live in northern Ohio.  They have lots of teaching programs and many of them are for adults.  You're never to old to learn and start enjoying winter.
