Soda Springs Winter Resort, which celebrates its 70th winter of operation at Donner Summit, opened for the season Dec. 19. The resort also introduces new features for kids this winter.
Opening day operations at the resort included two tube carousels, the kids snowmobile track, Tube Town, Lion's Head lift, two beginner runs, and Crystal Bowl chair to mid-mountain. The resort plans to add more skiing and riding terrain as soon as snow conditions permit.
The resort expanded Planet Snow Kids for this season. The special area for children eight years old and younger features new ski and snowboard equipment and a new tubing center. The new tubing center, which has two tubing carousels, is designed for kids under 42 inches tall who are too small for Tube Town. Planet Snow Kids, which also has two moving carpets accessing a gentle 40-foot slope, operates 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and 4 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Planet Snow Kids costs $20-25 per child.
The mini snowmobile track for kids is back. Children ages 6-12 can drive pint-sized snowmobiles on a circular track. Helmets are provided. The fee is $10 for 10 laps.
Tube Town, which operates 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., offers full day tubing sessions for children taller than 42 inches and adults. Rates run $20-25 per person.
