Keeping with tradition, Boreal Mountain Resort was the first resort in California to open to diehard skiers and riders on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 28 and 29). Cold night temperatures allowed for enough snowmaking to cover one short run under Nugget Chair. Sunny blue skies and warm temperatures along with seven terrain park features that the park crew built made for a weekend of fun for hundreds of eager skiers and riders.

Several hundred people came out to get a piece of the man-made run. Dozens of riders lined up at the top of each feature waiting for their turn, and many riders chose to outpace the chair by hiking.

“Opening weekend went great. It was like a reunion for everyone on the mountain after the long summer break," Boreal Mountain Director of Marketing Jon Slaughter said. "We are looking forward to another potential opening next weekend. With new snow and cold temperatures on the way, it looks like this season is off to a great start.”

With snow in the forecast for the coming days, combined with even more snowmaking, Boreal is hoping to open again next Friday with more terrain available. Keep checking here for updates and conditions.
