Blackfish spokesman Michael Sleigh said the new owners were investigating several investment plans, including building a new cafe and improving snow-making and grooming facilities.
"It hasn't seen a lot of money for a while," he said of the area.
Porter Heights is an hour from Christchurch. The 700-hectare ski area is serviced by three t-bar lifts, and attracted between 30,000 and 35,000 ski visits last year. It has snow- making facilities, but they need to be expanded.
