Wachusett Mountain Ski Area in Princeton and Jiminy Peak in Hancock have been blasting snow steadily for the past week thanks to a strong cold front that moved into the Northeast Saturday Dec. 5 and stayed.
Wachusett, on the side of Eastern Massachusetts' highest peak, plans its annual Ski or Ride in the New Year, beginning at 4 p.m. Dec. 31.
The area offers two party packages. The Mountain Package, $54 for adults and $42 for juniors last year and likely the same this year, includes skiing or riding until midnight, fireworks, a balloon drop at midnight, magician Eddie Raymond, live music in the Coppertop Lounge, kids karaoke. The Champagne Package, $95 last year and likely the same this year, includes everything in the Mountain Package, plus hors d'oeuvres in the Black Diamond, a gourmet buffet in the Spruce Room, a champagne toast at midnight, party favors, desserts, and a complimentary lift ticket for season pass holders.

Snow tubing is available 6 to 10 p.m. for an extra $5.
Jiminy Peak, in the lovely Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts, has its traditional New Year's Eve celebration set for Dec. 31. Festivities include a torchlight parade down the mountain, and fireworks.
