Parents whose young tots still believe in Santa may need to be prepared to explain why so many red Santa clones are on the slopes at Sierra Summit on Dec. 19. The resort, which has scheduled multiple visits from Santa this winter, also grants free skiing or riding for one day to Santa look-alikes.
The dress like Santa day at Sierra Summit features a weekend of Christmas costumes. Those riders or skiers garbed like Santa on Dec. 19 can get a free lift ticket. Those sporting their ugliest holiday sweaters on Dec. 20 can get a free hot non-alcoholic beverage.
The costume weekend also features a visit from the real Santa, although he may be hard to pick out of the crowd on the dress like Santa day. He also visits the slopes again on Dec. 24.
Sierra Summit launches their December activities with the ROME SDS Premature Jibulation on Dec. 12. The event, which is open to all snowboarders, offers a chance to win a Rome board and boots. The competition is free, but lift tickets are required.
The resort closes the December holidays with a New Years Eve celebration on Dec. 31. The event begins with a glowstick parade at 5 p.m. on Beginner Hill followed by the torchlight parade and fireworks on Mainstream Run at dusk. Dinner and live music are available at Mainstream Station.
