Interhome, accommodation rental network, is recommending skiers save money by staying in one of the smaller rather than big-name resorts which make up famous ski areas.

A company spokesperson told OnTheSnow: "By opting for Nendaz instead of Verbier, Les Menuires instead of Méribel or Tignes instead of Val d'Isère, holidaymakers can sample a spot of luxury for less."

For example, by staying in Nendaz, Switzerland, instead of Verbier, Interhome say skiers can save £90 per person based on a seven-night stay.

Sharing the same 4 Vallees ski area as the chic resort of Verbier, Nendaz is an ideal location for skiers and snowboarders seeking to explore the area's vast terrain. Interhome is offering seven nights at the Les Bouleaux holiday apartment from £89.75 per person, based on four people sharing, departing Jan. 9, 2010.  The property is located 50 metres from the town centre and just 500 metres from the closest ski lift.

Alternatively, staying in Les Menuires instead of Méribel can save you £120 per person. Situated below Val Thorens, Les Menuires is a good value base from which to discover the celebrated 3 Valleys ski area. Interhome is offering seven nights at the L'Astragale holiday apartment from £118.50 per person, based on two sharing, departing Jan. 9, 2010. This property is located close to the centre of La Croisette and 100 metres from the ski runs.

Thirdly, opt for Tignes instead of Val d'Isère and you can save £145 per person. Located in L'Espace Killy, Tignes is the sister resort to the stylish Val d'Isère. With a wealth of ski slopes and one of Europe's largest snowparks, Tignes is an excellent alternative to the sometimes pricey, Val d'Isère. Interhome is offering seven nights at the Les Pistes holiday apartment from £144 per person, based on two sharing, departing Jan. 9, 2010.
