Alpine Meadows has designed a new women's ski team to coach women. Team R.A.D., which stands for Rippin' Alpine Divas, includes eight female ski instructors who will teach the annual women's camps and a 10-week all-women program.
Team R.A.D., headed up by Leigh Pierini, aims to help women learn to ski or ski better with a heavy dose of fun and camaraderie. Development of technical skills and strength are also key components to the instructional paradigm.
Three multi-day women's camps coached by Team R.A.D. will be offered this year. Three-day programs, which cost $658 with lift tickets included or $529 without lift tickets, are available Jan. 12-14 or Mar. 19-21. One two-day program will be offered Feb. 6-7. It costs $369 with lift tickets included or $283 without lift tickets.
The camps, which are designed for skiers or snowboarders, include a first-morning welcome breakfast in the main lodge, three full days of skiing with women coaches, video analysis, and daily lunches. Each ski or snowboard day starts with stretching and strengthening routines. The camps divide participants into small lesson groups of like ability and provide for individualized consultation with each participant.
Team R.A.D. also will coach Women's Day Wednesdays, a 10-week program that meets with the same coach for the duration. Each coaching session runs three hours in the morning, starting the second week in January. The program costs $405.
The coaches are also available group, private, or semi-private instruction all winter. You can meet each of the coaches of Team R.A.D. online.
