Inland British Columbia resorts started eyeballing the sticks measuring snow while their slated opening dates were still weeks away. Snow mounted as storm cycles-one right after the other-pummeled the interior mountains, prompting several resorts to bump up their opening days.

Kicking Horse received over 160 centimeters of snowfall during a two-week storm onslaught. Snow piling up caused resort officials to escalate preparations for the season and bump their planned opening forward to Dec. 4. Lifts will run Dec. 4-6 for opening weekend and re-open for daily operations starting Dec. 11.

"Opening day at Kicking Horse is always legendary with core skiers coming to enjoy deep powder and a great vibe," says Steve Paccagnan, President and General Manager of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. "With more natural snow than any other resort in the interior of BC and Alberta, this year promises to be truly epic."

The first gondola on Dec. 4 loads at 9:00 a.m. The winning bid for the live auction held in the lift line for the second annual Dave Duncan First Gondola Charity Auction gets the first ride plus a private Big Mountain Center guide and complimentary lunch at the Eagle's Eye Restaurant. Tickets on all three days of opening weekend will also be discounted 10 percent.

Revelstoke bounced up their opening, too, when their base at their weather plot held over a meter of snow. The resort cranked up the lifts for their Sneak Peek this past weekend on Nov. 28-29, but the official commencement of daily operations begins Dec. 4. "Coverage looks great on the upper mountain," says Steve Parsons, Director of Mountain Operations for Revelstoke Mountain Resort.

The resort plans to commence daily operations starting Dec. 4. The new Mackenzie Outpost, operated by the Great White North, will be open for business at the top of the Revelation Gondola. The Outpost offers hot coffee, sandwiches on artisan bread, flat bread pizza, and Kelly's homemade goodies and jerky.

Whitewater Winter Resort and Silver Star Mountain Resort opened Nov. 28. Fernie Alpine Resort also plans to run its lifts starting this weekend on Dec. 5.

Panorama Mountain Village plans to open for the season on Dec. 11. Kimberley Alpine Resort will open for a preview weekend Dec. 12-13, with regular daily operations starting as of Dec. 18. Red Mountain Resort also plans to begin running its lifts on Dec. 18.
