Wisp Resort in Western Maryland celebrates its 54th birthday Sunday and Monday Dec. 13 and 14 with a $7 lift ticket offer. Wisp is Maryland's only operating ski area. It sits in the far west snow belt triangle of the state in the same mountain range as Canaan Valley.
Adults and juniors pay $7 for a lift ticket and can get lessons and rentals for half price. Lodging at the Wisp Hotel is available for $59 per night on those two dates only. The offer is based on limited availability and is not valid with other promotions.
The resort is lining up entertainment for the celebration. Music and games are planned 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Birthday cake will be served at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Money saved on lodging and lift tickets can be re-directed to dancing lessons and dinner Sunday afternoon and evening. A two-hour ballroom dancing class is offered from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. followed by dinner for two and two drinks for $70 per couple.
December festivities don't end with the birthday party. The Burton Rail Jam is on tap Friday, Dec. 18. Registration starts at 6 p.m. with competition in the Wisp terrain park set for 7 p.m. The open style competition costs $15 and is open to skiers and riders. Participants can win prizes and swag.
