Cataloochee Resort in North Carolina has stretched the limits with its Kids Ski Free program. Children 17 years old and younger can ski or snowboard free and stay overnight free at participating motels and lodges in nearby Maggie Valley when accompanied by a paying adult. The lodging offer is in effect during non-holiday periods Sunday through Thursday.
Paying adults staying at a participating accommodation receive a voucher redeemable at the Cataloochee lift ticket office for a children's complimentary lift ticket good any non-holiday Monday through Friday. There is a limit of two children per room. The paying adult must be at least 21 years old and must pay the full lift ticket price to get the children's complimentary tickets.
Lodging options range from rustic log cabins to a Ramada Inn. Boyd's Mountain Log Cabins sit on 130 acres including a Christmas tree farm. The complex is situated about nine miles from Caataloochee and overlooks the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. MIdweek rates average around $140 depending on the size of the cabin. One, two-, three- andf four-bedroom units are available. All feature a full kitchen, fireplaces, and Internet.
Closer and less expensive lodging includes Jonathan Creek Inn, the Microtel Inn, and the Ramada Limited all about four miles from the resort. Amenities and rates vary depending on needs and choices. The basic Ramada rate is about $49.99.
