Appalachian Resort in North Carolina celebrates its 48th season the first weekend in December with a $5 day session lit ticket Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 4 and 5. That's what it cost to ski at the resort when it opened in 1962. The rate does not apply to night skiing.
Friday, Dec. 4 marks the first of several Fresh Fridays in the ATP terrain park. It's free to enter the competition on a variety of set ups that will change on a regular bases. Registration is 5 to 6:30 p.m. with competition 7 to 8 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to standouts immediately after the close of the competition.
Women and girls who want to learn tricks can sign up for three separate Ladies Park Nights that start Saturday, Dec. 12. Female skiers and snowboarders of all ages and ability levels are welcome. Trick Tip Advisers will offer pointers on riding a box, jumping properly, and other tricks in a flexible, open format that organizers say allows for a laid back environment. The program is free with the purchase of a lift ticket. Sessions begin at 7 p.m. and prizes will be raffled off to participants at the close of the session.
The resort plans to open for night skiing Nov. 27.
