Belleayre, Holiday, Hunter, Plattekill, and Windham Mountains have teamed up with the Catskill Association for Tourism Services (CATS) to launch a new CATS Card that provides promotional discounts on skiing.
The CATS Card costs $25 and will yield 20 percent discounts off full-day lift tickets at the five mountains. The CATS Card can be used an unlimited number of times, all season long. The cards will be available online from the Catskill Association for Tourism Services after Dec. 1.
Ulster County Executive Michael Hein said, "Tourism in Ulster County is a $471 million business. The ski component of that clearly plays a large role. This particular type of promotion is exactly the type of win-win situations that we want to promote."
Hein was able to persuade the resorts to set aside any friction between the four private areas and public Belleayre in the common goal of luring New York metropolitan areas skiers away from Vermont and to the Catskills instead.
"Working together as a region is essential if we hope to gain market share over Vermont and other destinations," said Tony Lanza of Belleayre Mountain.
Lanza, Hein, and others in the Catskills hope to get the word out their region offers a full range of winter sports: downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, snow tubing, ice fishing, ice skating, ice climbing, followed by apres ski lounging in front of a fireplace.
