Big Sky Resort aims to launch operation for the winter on Thanksgiving Day. Those skiers and riders anxious for the openig weekend can take advantage of three lodging specials.

One of the opening weekend lodging specials is offered by Whitewater Inn, a motel located on US highway 191 along the Gallatin River with a 10-minute drive from Big Sky Resort. Rooms are available for $89. The hotel features wireless Internet, an indoor 90-foot waterslide, pool, spa, guest laundry, exercise room, and complimentary continental breakfast.

The Stillwater also has studio condos that sleep two people for $99 per night over Big Sky's opening weekend. The 500-square-foot condos, which are located within a five-minute drive from the base area, feature a queen sleeper sofa or wall bed plus a bathroom and full kitchen. Lodgers at the Stillwater have access to the Huntley Lodge swimming pool and hot tubs.

Larger families can expand into more room with Big Horn's spacious three-bedroom condominiums. The condos come with a large living room, fireplace, dining room, full kitchen, balconies, in suite laundry facilities, and garage. The condos cost $199 for opening weekend. Big Horn's condos, located 0.25 miles from the Village Center, sit across the street from Bear Back Poma. Those staying at Big Horn also get admission to Huntley Lodge swimming pool and hot tubs.

All three of the specials require a two-night minimum.  Special packages are available by calling Big Sky Central Reservations.

The Lone Peak Café will also offer a Thanksgiving-themed lunch special on opening day. The cafeteria-style eatery, which is open daily 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., sits upstairs in the Mountain Mall.
