Beaver Creek hosts the only stop in the United States on the men's alpine World Cup Circuit. The Audi Birds of Prey World Cup is Dec. 4-6, 2009. Race fans can see the best ski racers in the world competing in the U.S., on their way to the Olympic Games in Vancouver in 2010. The races are free to the public. There are bleachers in the finish area, and free transportation to the races from Avon.

The race includes a Super Combined Friday, Dec. 4. The Men's Downhill is the premier event, and is set for Saturday, followed by a Giant Slalom Sunday.

Olympic gold medalist Ted Ligety will compete along with World Cup winner Bode Miller, an American superstar attempting a comeback. It's a free event and activities will be held throughout the valley.

Lodging and ski packages start at $153 per person per night. Buy three nights' lodging and three days of skiing and you will receive one night and one day of skiing free during World Cup. The package is valid Dec. 2-9 and is based on double occupancy.

Volunteers are needed for the race crew. It sounds like a great gig as you get a volunteer credential for the week at Vail and Beaver Creek, plus lunches, an invite to the volunteer party, and some way-cool swag including an event jacket. Course maintenance volunteers are needed for four days between Friday, Nov. 27, and Sunday, Dec. 6.

Coordinator Jen Mason says, "Talon crew is the hardest working crew on the World Cup circuit and to be a part of this group is considered an honor." Contact Mason at jmason@vvf.org or call 970-949-1999.
